A local commercial radio station is leaving the building it has been based in for 40 years.

Signal Radio's studios on Stoke Road in Stoke-on-Trent are for sale with an asking price of £600,000.

The two-storey building is described as a prominent office unit with parking, which could also be rented for £53,500 a year.

Owner Bauer Media Group said its Signal One broadcast team would move to studios in Birmingham sometime in the new year.

The ground floor of the building had been used for "recording purposes", estate agent Louis Taylor said, while the second floor was an open-plan office.

The 8,500 square foot site was available immediately, the agent added.

Signal Radio - now known as Signal One and Greatest Hits Radio - began broadcasting from Stoke-on-Trent in September 1983.

Closing the Shelton studios and moving the radio station to Birmingham would ensure equal access to the very best technology and resource, a Bauer Media Audio spokesperson said.

The station would continue to provide local news, sport and travel, they added, as well as supporting local vulnerable children through the Cash for Kids charity.
