Body recovered from dock sparks police probe

A man's body was pulled from the water at Cardiff Bay, after a member of the public alerted emergency services, police have said.

South Wales Police, who attended the scene at 11:52 BST on Sunday, said its investigation into the death was ongoing.

In a separate incident, another man's body was found near the river at North Dock in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, on Sunday.

Dyfed-Powys Police attended after receiving a call at 12:15 and closed off the entrance to the dock.

Both forces said the incidents were not currently being treated as suspicious.

In Cardiff, the River Taff and bay appeared to be closed off while officers - alongside fire, ambulance and lifeboat services - attended, and those taking part in water sports in the area were asked to leave the water.

South Wales Police said it was carrying out inquiries to identify the body and the circumstances surrounding the man's death.

The force added that it "doesn't appear to be anything suspicious" at this time, but its investigation was ongoing.

In its statement regarding the Llanelli incident, Dyfed-Powys Police said: "The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time but we're carrying out enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the death."

The force also appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.
