A new science and technology centre in Scunthorpe is set to open later this month, North Lincolnshire Council has announced.

Discover@20-21 at the Visual Arts Centre, in Church Square, has been designed to inspire the next generation of artists, inventors, scientists and engineers, the authority said.

Council leader Rob Waltham said it was a hands-on space where "children can see how imagination and innovation can shape the world around them".

The centre, in the former St John's Church, is due to open to the public on 30 October, and will be open from Tuesdays to Saturdays, between 10:00 and 16:00.

The council announced plans for Discover@20-21 in March 2023.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the £2.5m project, which included restoration work to St John's church, was funded by the government's Towns Fund.

Councillor John Davison said: "This is another fantastic addition to Scunthorpe town centre – something that families can enjoy together and that makes learning feel like an adventure."
