A 23-year-old man has died after a crash on the A1 in Nottinghamshire.

Emergency services were called to North Muskham, near Newark, after an Audi A3 and a Renault Traffic van collided on the southbound carriageway of the A1 at about 20:30 BST on Thursday.

The man in the Audi died later in hospital and a woman in the same vehicle suffered injuries which were not believed to be life-threatening, Nottinghamshire Police said.

The force said the road was closed overnight while investigations took place but it has since reopened.

Det Sgt Charlotte Henson said: "The man's family is being supported by specialist officers following this tragic incident.

"They have asked for privacy at what must be an extremely difficult time."

She appealed for any witnesses or anyone who has dashcam footage of what happened to come forward.
