DJ's last track released as charity single

Danny Stubbs worked with some household names from the music industry before he died in August

The final work of a Stoke-on-Trent DJ who died from cancer earlier this year has now been released as a charity single.

Danny Stubbs, from Chell Heath, began his career in clubs in Hanley in the early 2000s.

He went on to enjoy a career that took him across the world and worked with some of the music industry’s biggest names.

Proceeds from sales of the single – Is This Real – will go to fund cancer research.

Friend and producer Paul Sawyer said the track was “a great way to celebrate his life”.

He added: “Everybody loved Danny. He was so infectious, one of the nicest guys you could ever meet within the music industry.”

Some of the household names Stubbs worked with included U2, Ariana Grande and Paul Oakenfold.

'So approachable'

Following a diagnosis of cancer in his oesophagus, he died in August at the age of 40 at St Luke’s Hospice in Winsford.

A club night held in his honour in October raised more than £1,000 for the hospice.

“He was so approachable and he was not interested in making money out of music, he just absolutely loved it – it was his passion, and that’s what made him so special,” Mr Sawyer said.

“It brings a bit of a tear to your eye when you listen to what everybody has to say.”

He felt it was the “most obvious thing to do” to fundraise for cancer research with his final song.

“With his passing suddenly, it made sense to make sure that this still gets released and just shows off his talent.”

Mr Sawyer added he would be thrilled to see the single go to number one on the Beatport electronic dance music chart.
