A police officer has been charged with assaulting a 14-year-old girl after he allegedly struck her in the knee and put his hands around her neck in a hospital.
PC Thomas White, 30, of Essex Police, was investigated by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
The officer is due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates' Court on Monday after being charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
A spokesperson for the IOPC said the incident took place in Basildon on 27 March, when the teenager was arrested by Mr White.
It has also been alleged that the police officer used PAVA spray and excessive force on the girl, said the IOPC.
The IOPC investigation started following a conduct referral from the force in April.
Once the IOPC finished its investigation, it said it sent a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service, which authorised the charge.
