An annual sleep-out raising funds for a homeless charity has taken place.

Islanders slept on the concrete floor of Pier Road Car Park in Jersey on Friday night to raise money for Sanctuary Trust.

The charity said the Sleep Out event aimed to raise "awareness for those experiencing homelessness" in the island and it had already raised £40,000.

Trust chairman Tim Ringsdore, who slept outside in St Aubin in March for a week and raised more than £4,100, said it gave him "just a glimpse of how tough it can be".

Mr Ringsdore said: "I'll always emphasise that the Sleep Out is not about replicating homelessness - it's about solidarity, awareness, and raising the funds we urgently need to continue supporting people in crisis."

Chief executive Sarah Tumelty said the event was a chance for people to "come together, take on a challenge, and make a real difference".

The charity said all money raised would directly support its "outreach, support work, and the ongoing development of the charity's services".
