Plans for 24 affordable homes for vulnerable women in Hull have been submitted to the city council.

Winner Trading Ltd, which is part of the charity that runs the Preston Road Women's Centre in Hull known as Purple House, said the development consisted of both townhouses and flats.

The proposal states the White Place would be built on land surrounding the Purple House and would include activity and office space.

If approved, the development will consist of eight three-bed townhouses, eight one-bed flats, and eight two-bed flats around a central courtyard.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the single-storey former Preston Road family community centre, which is on the site, will be demolished.

Background information included in the proposal said in 1999, a group of women came together to put a funding bid forward for the women of Preston Road Estate. This project became known as Winner, which stands for Women Improving Now Not Ever Retreating.

It said the bid was successful and delivered evidence-based research to prove the need for a women-only space on Preston Road.

The application said "many thousands" of women had benefitted from Winner's services, which include accredited courses for women, a specialist domestic violence and abuse service, a specialist sexual health service and an outreach support service, "helping women isolated in their own homes".

Plans also show the development will include seven parking spaces accessible from Mappleton Grove.
