Plans have been submitted to turn a former pub in Long Eaton into flats.

The proposal for the former Foenix Lounge in Tamworth Road comes after a previous bid to convert it into a 13-bed house in multiple occupation (HMO) was refused.

If the new application is approved, the ground floor would be converted into a commercial unit, with a pair of three-bedroom maisonettes and a two-bedroom flat created upstairs.

The previous HMO application was refused by Erewash Borough Council in September over concerns about the planned communal space for residents.

Planning documents state the previous proposed development was also deemed inadequate in relation to flood risk.

"In response, the current proposal represents a fundamental change in both the use and nature of the development," the new application states.

"The revised scheme no longer proposes an intensive HMO use but instead introduces three self-contained residential dwellings that will provide much-needed family accommodation within a sustainable town centre location."

The application said the total number of proposed residents has been "substantially reduced".

With regard to flood risk, the plans state that "a detailed and up-to-date flood risk assessment has been prepared".
