An Aberdeen care at home service made errors with medication that had “potentially serious consequences”, inspectors have found.

The Care Inspectorate has told Cornerstone Aberdeen South - which provides care to adults with a learning disability - to make immediate improvements.

The inspection report , externalfound staff did not understand their responsibilities when supporting people with their medication, which led to the potential issues.

Cornerstone said that measures had since been put in place to meet the Care Inspectorate's requirements.

Incident reporting was also criticised during the visit in August.

It was found a recent incident should have been immediately reported to police, but this was not done until a day later.

Aidan Severino, Cornerstone's branch leader for South Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, said increased training and support for staff with medication has been put in place.

He added: "The Care Inspectorate have now been for a follow up visit and whilst we have yet to receive formal feedback, we are confident we have met all these requirements."

More robust incident investigation and reporting protocols have also been implemented.
