A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with raping a woman while off-duty, Scotland Yard has said.

PC Rupert Edwards, who is attached to the South West Command Unit, was formally charged on 19 March following an investigation into allegations made in 2023.

He will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

PC Edwards has been suspended from duty and the Met's Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed, a spokesperson for the force said.
