Estate homes to make way for regeneration scheme

Newark's Yorke Drive regeneration scheme has been in the pipeline for years

More than 100 homes in a town in Nottinghamshire are set to be demolished for a regeneration project.
A scheme to redevelop the Yorke Drive estate in Newark, first submitted in 2018, was approved at a meeting on Thursday.
Now, 130 properties, a sports pavilion and a row of garages will make way for 207 new private and council homes, a replacement pavilion and new sports pitches at the Lincoln Road Playing Field.
Newark and Sherwood District Council's portfolio holder for housing Lee Brazier thanked residents for their "patience and cooperation" over the years.
He added: "As a council, we recognise that this has not been an easy process for them.
"This is such an important development and the impact it will have on their lives is huge, which is why it's vital we get it right.
"Everyone is keen to get spades in the ground."

Sports pitches form a sizeable part of the new estate layout
The council, which has been working with developer Lovell Partnership, hopes to begin construction this summer, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, with work carried out in phases.
The pavilion, playing fields and homes earmarked for existing residents will be built first, said the council.
Residents can attend a drop-in session at Bridge Community Centre from 13:00 to 18:00 GMT on Thursday 27 February to see the plans and discuss their future housing options.
