A man in his 70s has been attacked by a group of young people on bicycles.

The victim suffered a broken wrist and arm injuries during the incident in Booth Lane South, Northampton.

He had to undergo a number of operations in hospital.

It happened on June 27 but officers have now issued an appeal for witnesses.

Northamptonshire Police said the attack happened near the junction with Wellingborough Road between 15:15 and 15:30 BST.

The man was walking with his wife when he was attacked by what police describe as "a group of young people on bicycles".

The main suspect is described as having mid-length dark, curly hair and was wearing a grey tracksuit.

Officers have asked anyone with information to get in touch.

The appeal comes four days after an 80-year-old man died following an attack in a park in Leicester.

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with murder in relation to that incident.
