The family of a 78-year-old man who died after being hit by a car have paid tribute to a “true gentleman”.

James Joseph Corrigan died in hospital after being struck by a green Peugeot 308 on Bentley Road, in Doncaster, on 18 October.

In a statement his family said the great-grandfather had been a professional boxer before becoming a well-known contractor in the city.

They said: "He was a true gentleman and will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him."

South Yorkshire Police has appealed for anyone who saw the collision or who has dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
