A man has been jailed for two years after attempting to kidnap a two-year-old boy.

Reece Jolliffe, from Amesbury in Wiltshire, entered the victim's home through an unlocked door at about 04:00 BST on 2 September.

He had been drinking heavily and had no recollection of what happened after leaving a pub that evening, police said.

The 28-year-old admitted the offence and was sentenced to a 10-year restraining order at Salisbury Crown Court on 18 October.

The victim's mother awake to find Jolliffe at the end of her bed, holding her child in his arms, the court was told.

Upon being disturbed, he dropped the child and ran out of the house, police said.

Sgt Matthew Goldring said: “This was a deeply disturbing incident for the entire family.

“We do not know Jolliffe’s full intentions when he entered the victim’s home, but his actions were significantly alarming.

“I would like to personally thank the victim’s mother for her bravery in reporting this to Wiltshire Police and trusting that we would bring Jolliffe to justice.”

Jolliffe, of Coltsfoot Close, was also told to pay a surcharge of £187.
