Gyms at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield and Concord Sports Centre have reopened after refurbishment

Gyms at two leisure centres in Sheffield have reopened following a £750,000 refurbishment.

Equipment and facilities have been upgraded at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield (EISS) and Concord Sports Centre.

The work was funded by leisure operator Everyone Active, which runs the centres in partnership with Sheffield City Council.

Everyone Active contract manager Phil Bowers said: "This transformation will give Sheffield residents of all ages and abilities access to high-quality, modern facilities on their doorstep."

The EISS is a multi-sports facility in Attercliffe which has been a training base for many Team GB athletes and boxers.

The centre's two gyms have had £500,000 spent on them - one features new treadmills, cross-trainers and a dedicated recovery space, while the other has been fitted with new equipment to improve strength and conditioning.

Part of the space has been converted into a studio to provide more room for exercise classes.

Mr Bowers added: "We're excited to see how it will inspire more people to get active and enjoy everything our centre has to offer."

The £250,000 refurbishment of Concord Sports Centre in Shiregreen included transforming the gym with new cardio and resistance equipment.

Councillor Kurtis Crossthorn, chairman of the council's communities, parks and leisure committee, said: "This investment demonstrates our commitment to providing modern, accessible facilities that support people of all ages and abilities to stay active and connected."

Councillor Kurtis Crossthorn said the spaces offered "something for everyone"

Crossthorn added: "Whether you're training for competition or simply looking to improve your fitness, these new spaces offer something for everyone."

The investment in both centres follows a £110,000 makeover to the gym facility at Heeley Pool and Gym in June by Everyone Active.
