Guildford Borough Council encourages residents to attend Cleaner Air Day to learn how to cut pollution in their area

A local authority is calling on residents to help improve air quality and reduce pollution.

Guildford Borough Council says Cleaner Air Day is a "chance for residents to learn about how they can tackle air pollution".

It is encouraging motorists in the Surrey town to choose alternative travel such as walking, cycling or public transport instead of using their car for the day.

Merel Rehorst-Smith, lead councillor for regulatory services, said the scheme is a "great opportunity for residents to discover practical ways to reduce pollution and protect our environment".

She said everyone can "contribute to tackling the climate emergency and improving air quality across our borough".

The first Cleaner Air Day took place in 2024 and this year's event takes place on Sunday from 11:00 to 16:00 BST at Upper and Lower High Street in Guildford.

Activities on the day include live entertainment, music, information about e-bikes and e-vehicles and experts speaking about tackling air pollution.
