Detectives in a murder investigation have been given an extra 12 hours to question a suspect.

Police were called just after 19:10 BST on Tuesday to reports of a stabbing on Burrell Road, Ipswich.

A woman in her 20s was found with serious injuries and died a short time later before reaching the hospital.

Suffolk Police arrested a 27-year-old man in Ipswich on suspicion of murder and now have more time to question him.

A spokesperson for the force confirmed detectives had been granted a superintendent's extension.

A cordon and road closure remain in place at Burrell Road while investigations continue.

On Wednesday Supt Andy Martin told BBC Look East the victim and suspect were "well known to each other".

He urged anyone with information to contact the force.
