Burst water main closes Sheffield city centre road

Several city centre roads have been closed and water supply issues have been reported after a mains burst in Sheffield.

A police cordon has been put in place on Cumberland Street, between The Moor and Eyre Street, with the road closed to pedestrians and vehicles.

According to Yorkshire Water, properties in the S2, S3, S6, S7, S8, S10 and S11 postcode areas could be affected by no or low pressure, with technicians "working hard to shut off the burst section of pipe to restore water supplies".

In a post on X, the firm said it was "urgently looking into the matter" and it was hoped that the water supply would be "back to normal as quickly as possible".

In a statement, Yorkshire Water thanked people for their "patience" while work continued to restore supplies.

"We had a smaller burst pipe in S10 this morning which we have isolated and responded to," it added.

In an earlier post on X, the firm said it had been experiencing issues at its East Bank Water Pumping Station.

As a result of the road closure, traffic on Eyre Street has only been able to travel one way, towards Bramall Lane roundabout, which South Yorkshire Police said had also been affected.
