A historic public school, which counts the Princess of Wales among its alumni, has announced plans to refurbish an "outdated" boarding house.

Leaders at Marlborough College, Wiltshire, hope to extend and upgrade C2 House, one of the college's six boarding houses.

Under the proposals, "outdated" bedroom and communal spaces will be rejuvenated and extra storeys will be added.

The application states the college's mission is to deliver the UK's "best independent education", so having "modern, exemplary buildings is essential".

Based on Bath Road, the site is separate from the main college grounds and is not a listed building.

According to the plans, the boarding house requires "significant upgrades" to ensure it meets modern standards.

Plans include extending the lower block across three storeys and adding a single storey extension to the ground floor communal area, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Designs have been created to complement the existing architecture, the application states.

The world-renowned school has a long list of famous alumni including Kate Middleton.

World War Two poet Siegfried Sassoon and comedian Jack Whitehall were also students there.

Wiltshire Council is expected to make a decision on the planning application by mid-March.
