Teenager admits fatal hammer attack on his mother

A teenager who hit his mother nearly 30 times on the head with a claw hammer has admitted her manslaughter.
Frederico Canuzo, 18, from Warrington, entered a guilty plea to the manslaughter of his mother Chintzia McIntyre, 48, on the grounds of diminished responsibility when he appeared at Liverpool Crown Court earlier.
Det Insp Eli Atkinson, who led the investigation, said: "This was an exceptionally traumatic incident for all those involved, especially Chintzia's family and neighbours and emergency services who tried to help her."
Canuzo was remanded in custody and is set to be sentenced on 18 March.
Police were alerted to the assault on Ms McIntyre at about 09:40 BST on 29 August 2024 by a 999 call from her husband.
He had become aware of the attack after receiving a notification sent to his phone from his video doorbell while he was working away in a different part of the country.
The activations showed Canuzo attacking his mum outside their home in Phoenix Place before fleeing - she was hit 29 times.
Officers subsequently discovered Canuzo had boarded a train heading to London Euston where British Transport Police arrested him as he arrived on the platform.
His guilty plea was accepted by the prosecution based on medical evidence.
