Family wants new investigation into fatal attack

The family of a man who died after he was attacked on a night out are calling for his case to be reinvestigated three years on.

Riccardo Holness, 42, was put on life support after the incident outside a Beckenham nightclub in October 2021 and he died a month later.

Mr Holness' sister Ramona Marsh, from Sevenoaks, Kent, said she believed police missed "crucial evidence" from witnesses.

The Metropolitan Police said a thorough investigation was carried out into the incident, which included analysing CCTV and speaking to witnesses.

A police spokesperson said: "All the evidence was presented to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) who decided that the case should be discontinued."

A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, but was not charged with any offences.

The CPS said it could only bring a prosecution when there was a "realistic prospect" of securing a conviction.

"Our prosecutors reviewed this case with diligence and care, and concluded there was no realistic prospect of conviction on the evidence available," said a spokesperson.

Ms Marsh believes the police missed "crucial evidence"

Mr Holness' family say they are heartbroken and still waiting for answers.

Ms Marsh said: "He was very charismatic. Everybody that he met loved him."

An inquest into Mr Holness' death is due to take place in November and the family are fundraising for legal representation.
