An upgrade of a church's "outdated" audio-visual technology will improve the experience of community events, those behind the project have said.

St Peter's Church in Onchan is carrying out a £35,000 refurbishment of its equipment, which has been used regularly to share services online since the pandemic.

Church representative Elaine Litherland said the upgrade would mean higher quality streaming services.

The refurbishment would improve both religious and secular events, including film nights, talks, band concerts and activities including schoolchildren, she said.

The building has also hosted drama groups and bands, which make use of the equipment.

The project has received a £2,490 grant from the Manx Lottery Trust to improve the furniture housing its sound equipment.

Trust chairman Stephen Turner said its "commitment to enhancing both religious and secular activities within the community is truly commendable".

The funding would help to "ensure that the church can continue to be a vibrant hub for a wide range of events", he added.
