Council disappointed at university campus closure

The University of Wolverhampton is set to close its campus in Telford, according to Telford and Wrekin Council

A council has said it is "disappointed" at the announced closure of a university campus.

Telford and Wrekin Council said the University of Wolverhampton was set to close its campus in Telford.

The university, which also has campuses in Wolverhampton and Walsall, and plans to open a medical school in the city, has been contacted by the BBC for comment.

According to the council, teaching currently taking place at the Telford campus will be moved to Wolverhampton.

Shirley Reynolds, the council's cabinet member for education, said: "We're disappointed with the University of Wolverhampton's decision to relocate its campus away from Telford after being based in the town for a number of years."

However, she said the council was "determined" to ensure residents had access to the best education and training opportunities.
