Footage shows debris at old cinema site
Cinema demolition
- Published
New drone footage has been released showing piles of debris at the former Galaxy cinema in Long Eaton.
The building, which first opened in 1907, was demolished after standing derelict for more than a decade.
The property, alongside a former nightclub next door, will be replaced by 20 affordable homes and space for businesses.
Erewash Borough Council said the site had now been cleared and survey work was taking place, ready for foundations to go in.

Demolition of the former cinema took four months
The scheme is part of Long Eaton's £25m town deal, which was announced in 2021 and will see several regeneration projects funded by the government.
Other elements include a new footbridge over the Erewash Canal and the remodelling of the town's high street.
Erewash Borough Council described the demolition work, which was completed on 5 September, as "painstaking", but said disruption on Derby Road had been avoided.
Richard Ledger, chair of the Long Eaton Town Deal Board, said: "After considerable effort to secure the property and a disused nightclub next door so they could be demolished, the scene is now set to create a vibrant new hub of homes and businesses on the site."
