A nursery has closed with immediate effect following an incident involving a child and member of staff.

Partou Barnwood Day Nursery in Gloucester alerted families of the closure immediately, following the suspension of its registration to practise by Ofsted. The nursery also suspended the member of staff involved.

A spokesperson for the nursery said the incident was raised and escalated "immediately" as part of its "rigorous" safeguarding process. The relevant authorities were informed too, they said.

The member of staff was suspended immediately and is subject to a police investigation, the spokesperson added.

The parents of the child involved were informed of the incident and are being supported, the nursery spokesperson said.

They added: "We will of course be providing the authorities with all possible support and assistance.

"Owing to the active police investigation, no further details about the incident can be shared at this time."

Gloucestershire Police has been approached for comment.
