'Out-of-character' flats and shops plan refused
- Published
Plans for six flats and two commercial units have been rejected over fears the proposed three-storey building would will be “out of character” for the area and lead to parking issues.
An application was submitted to Peterborough City Council for the development on land in Oundle Road, Woodston, Peterborough.
The plans, external included four one-bedroom and two two-bedroom flats and 19 parking spaces.
But the council refused to grant permission, saying it would have an “unacceptable impact on the setting and significance of the adjacent locally listed baptist church.”
Planners said the development would lead to greater demand for parking in an area where on-street parking was already over capacity.”
They said approving the application would have resulted in "a large, office-style building that would otherwise dominate the street scene" and "detract from the character and appearance of the immediate area”.
