A specialist mental health team in Guernsey has been given an award in psychiatry.

Guernsey's Older Adult Community Health Team is based at the Oberlands Centre in Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

It has attained a Royal College of Psychiatry National Accreditation, which recognises the team's work on its memory clinic service, which helps people with memory problems and dementia.

Mark Haines, operations manager for community mental health services, said it was a "fantastic achievement" and the team were "passionate and committed".

The team has developed a Cognitive Stimulation Group which hopes to maintain cognitive function.

They have also developed a carers education group to help family caregivers support loved ones with dementia.

Kay Fussey, team manager, said the accreditation had been "instrumental in enabling us to deliver the best available standards of care that we can provide to our patients who are referred into the memory assessment service."
