A new breastfeeding room has opened at a hospital in Devon to provide a safe and quiet environment.

The room has opened at Torbay Hospital and is available for staff, patients and visitors who are breastfeeding.

The hospital said it would be open 24 hours a day and has seating, nappy changing facilities and a fridge to store milk as well as a small number of breast pumps.

Dr Joanne Watson, health and care strategy director and the baby friendly guardian for Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, said it was "so important to support families every way we can".

She said she hoped to see more feeding rooms around the organisation in the future.

The infant feeding room at Torbay Hospital can be found on level 3 of the women’s health unit, behind the elevators.
