A three-year-old girl has completed the Three Peaks Challenge, making her one of the youngest people to finish the hike.

Darlia, from Peakirk, Peterborough, walked the peaks during a number of weekends, completing the task in about 30 days in total.

Darlia, who is one of six sisters, raised more than £1,500 for The Outward Bound Trust, and was joined on the walks by her mum, an older sister, aged 14, and her younger sister, aged 18 months, who was carried by her dad.

Her father, James, said he hoped the family could inspire more people to embrace nature and show the importance of getting children outdoors.

'Promise of ice cream'

“I am so proud of her" said James, "She is full of energy, and we were looking for ways to tire her out.

"As parents, we believe children should be getting outdoors as much as possible as it is great for both physical and mental health and taking on a challenge like this will teach them a level of determination."

She scaled Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) first at the end of April, followed by Scafell Pike on 11 May and Ben Nevis on 26 May.

He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire that she "virtually ran up Snowdon and bounced her way back down", with the "promise of an ice cream" for her hard work at the end.

The family regularly walks in the Peak District and did not train ahead of the challenge.

They chose to raise money for The Outward Bound Trust, which aims to inspire young people to learn and go on outdoor adventures.
