Suspected gas leak shuts infant school and nursery

A school and adjoining nursery have closed due to a suspected gas leak.

Norfolk County Council said Drayton Community Infant School, near Norwich, would stay shut for the rest of the day, external.

The manager of Childerwood Nursery, which is based at the school, said she arrived on site on Monday morning "to the smell of gas".

She said an engineer was on scene and that a faulty valve may be to blame. The nursery may reopen later depending on whether the fault is fixed, the manager added.

More than 230 pupils currently attend Drayton Community Infant School, external.
