An online fundraising appeal has been launched in memory of a teenager who died after he went missing at a lake.

The body of Sonny Clarke, 17, was discovered following a search of Rudyard Lake, near Leek, in Staffordshire on 24 February, after reports three boys were seen in the water.

The other two teenagers were taken to hospital and later discharged.

Sonny's family said they wanted to ensure he had the best send-off possible and his memory lived on.

Sonny and his father shared a passion for mountain biking, his family said

The 17-year-old had a love for the great outdoors, was a skilled mountain biker, and had achieved his "dream" of being accepted into a prestigious biking college in Scotland.

Alongside mountain biking - a passion he shared with his father - he also "excelled" at joinery, winning awards at Leek College for his designs and craftsmanship.

A "huge hole" had been left in the lives of his family and all that knew him, stated the GoFundMe appeal called Remembering Sonny, which has a £6000 target.

In addition to paying towards the teenager's funeral, the family hope to set up a memorial area, so they and his friends can go to remember him.
