Approval recommended for 100 new homes in village

A 100-home development in a Leicestershire village is set for approval by planners.
Affordable homes are planned by East Midlands Housing Group off Standard Hill in Hugglescote, on the 9.3-acre (3.76-hectare) site of the former Jack's Ices ice cream factory.
But concerns have been raised over the safety of building homes off the 40mph stretch of road close to the brow of the hill.
The impact of increased housing close to the crossroads in Hugglescote and Ravenstone was also raised by councillor John Geary, who says they are “over capacity”.
Officers recommend that approval should be granted when the plan is discussed at North West Leicestershire District Council on Tuesday.
The plan was previously slated for approval in April, but councillors deferred their decision at the 11th-hour so further consultation could take place with highways officers.
Suggestions that the road could be reduced to 30mph were rejected, but new vehicle-activated signs will be installed to reinforce the current 40mph limit.
