A man in his 20s has been shot in the leg in what police have described as a brutal attack in Ballymoney, County Antrim.

Four masked men armed with weapons, including a gun, forced their way into a property in Carnany Drive shortly after 12:10 BST on Tuesday, the police have said.

As well as the injury to his leg, the victim also sustained injuries to his head, face and chest during the attack.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) attended and took the man to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition at this time.

“Everyone has the right to live their life free from the threat of violence and this brutal attack is a clear violation of the victim's human rights," the police said.

“There is no justification for this and those responsible are not defenders of their communities - they are criminals who prey on vulnerable people," they added.

The police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
