Firefighters rescue couple's wedding day

A Cornish firefighting duo dealt with an important rescue mission - helping a couple on their wedding day.
St Austell Fire Station said on Facebook, external firefighter Martin Giles and watch manager Andy Brier answered the call from David Martin and Rebekah Hill to be witnesses for their nuptials.
The couple had travelled down to Cornwall for their wedding and asked at the fire station's door if they could help provide the required two witnesses.
Speaking about the call-out, Mr Giles and Mr Brier said it was a privilege to help the happy couple.
Mr Giles said he answered a knock on the station's door from Mr Martin, who said he was getting married at the St Austell registry office in Polkyth House and needed two witnesses.
"It was a bit of a strange one, but I went upstairs and checked with my boss and he said 'yeah, no trouble'," Mr Giles said.
The firefighters said they carried out their witness duties for the couple - who were on holiday from the South East - during their lunch break.
The couple had planned to find two witnesses on the street, but there was nobody around and the fire station was next door to the wedding venue.
Mr Brier said they went to the registry office on a fire engine and had to keep their radios on them during the wedding just in case they received a call out to an incident.
He added it was a lovely service and they were happy to be part of the big day, although he explained he and Mr Giles ended up having to carry out extra duties.
Mr Brier said: "As we walked into the hall where they got married they were going to play some music, but the CD player had broken, so the registrar did ask us to sing."
Mr Giles added along with the singing, they were also asked to take photographs and video the wedding as well.
