Tribute to cyclist, 80, after country estate crash

Robert Sansom counted cycling among his many hobbies, his family said

An 80-year-old man who died in a crash with a car on a country estate was "much-loved" and had a "lifelong love of cycling", his family has said.

Robert Sansom, known as Bob, died after he was involved in a collision with a white Skoda Karoq while cycling on the Childerley Estate near Dry Drayton, in Cambridgeshire, at about 21:15 BST on 7 August.

Mr Sansom's family said he also enjoyed walking, gliding, beekeeping, volunteering and travelling during his "active life".

The Skoda driver, a man in his 30s from Newmarket, Suffolk, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released on bail until 7 November.

Police said Mr Sansom, who lived in Childerley, died at the scene.

In a statement released by the family through Cambridgeshire Police, they said: "Robert (Bob) Sansom was a much-loved dad, grandad, brother, uncle and friend with a lifelong love of cycling."

The family added that he would be "deeply missed by many".
