Jersey biker's loss 'felt by everyone'
- Published
The mother of a biker who died last year after he lost control during a motor sport event has described her son as "a beautiful, caring, loving person."
An inquest into the death of 23 year-old Kieran Le Bail heard he collided with a signpost on the Five Mile Road in St Ouen's Bay in Jersey in June 2023.
His mother and fiancée were among family and friends who listened to the evidence.
Afterwards his mother Anita Le Bail, said his loss was felt by everyone who knew him.
The inquest heard Kieran Le Bail, who was an officer at Jersey Customs and Immigration Service, had a passion for bikes from a young age.
When he died, he had been taking part in the Jersey Motorcycle & Light Car Club's sprint event.
The relief coroner Cyril Whelan heard Mr Le Bail had lost control and been involved in a collision with a sign post.
An examination of his bike found there were no underlying mechanical defects and the road had been checked more than once for debris and it was clear.
The weather and visibility were also good.
Mr Le Bail was given first aid at the scene and the inquest heard an ambulance arrived very quickly.
'So tragic'
Mr Le Bail's mother Anita said sitting through the inquest was hard.
"It's like living the whole day over again.
"It’s so tragic that we’ve lost someone who meant so much to so many people. He was just an all-round beautiful caring, loving person," she said.
"We just want to carry on with the motoring side of things. I think that would be honouring Kieran - anything to mention his name.
"As long as his name is always out there, he’ll live on forever."
