A man has been arrested after shop staff challenging a suspected thief in Nottinghamshire were threatened with a knife.

Police said they were called to the Asda on Memorial Avenue, Worksop, just after 20:15 BST on Monday.

After getting a description, officers searched the area and less than 10 minutes later a suspect was detained following a foot pursuit to Vicar's Walk.

A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and police said their inquiries were ongoing.

PC Karl White said: "Thankfully the victim in this incident was not injured, but we know that whenever a knife is involved there is the potential for an incident to escalate.

"Robbery is a distressing crime, which is why we take it very seriously and investigate every occurrence thoroughly."
