A leisure centre in Mablethorpe will close next month before a new facility opens on the same site in the summer, council officials have said.

Work on the Station Leisure and Learning Centre began in March 2023 on the site of the current Station Sports Centre.

The existing building will be closed on 11 April before being demolished.

A new, £12m centre featuring a 25-metre (82ft) swimming pool, fitness suites, studios, outdoor play area and learning hub is expected to open in the summer.

Membership of the centre will allow access to other facilities in Louth, Skegness and Horncastle during the closure.

Councillor Richard Fry from East Lindsey District Council said the new facility will be "transformational in improving the health and wellbeing opportunities for people of all ages in Mablethorpe and the surrounding area.

"It will take away the need for residents to leave town to access a swimming pool," he said.

Officials say at least 12 new jobs will be created by the development.

An opening date for the new facility should be announced in the coming weeks.
