Children up to the age of 16 can swim for 10p at five pools in Cumbria

Children up to the age of 16 are being offered swimming sessions for 10p at five indoor pools during the summer holidays.

Cumberland Council and the Wigton Baths Trust are funding the scheme to try to get children more active.

The slots are being offered at allocated times at pools including Cockermouth Leisure Centre and Copeland Pool and Fitness Centre in Whitehaven.

The council said it also wanted to help struggling families with the spiralling cost of living.

Councillor Anne Quilter said: “We want to encourage the young people of Cumberland to get active.

"It is a great opportunity for children to use our facilities at a discounted rate and will also support families during a cost of living crisis."

The sessions are also being offered at Carlisle's Sands Centre, Wigton Baths and Workington Leisure Centre.
