Surrey Police have issued an appeal for witnesses after a man was found with serious stab injuries in Hersham.
Officers were called to Old Esher Road at about 05:00 GMT on Monday where a man in his 50s was found.
The man had "serious injuries" and was taken to hospital, Surrey Police said.
Det Sgt Rob Way said: “We are working hard to establish the circumstances of this incident, including the possibility that the man was the victim of an assault."
Police said enquires are continuing and asked anyone with relevant information, particularly those driving along Old Esher Road at the time, to come forward.
"Understandably, this will have caused concern amongst the local community," said Mr Way.
"I would like to reassure everyone that we are doing everything we can to establish what happened."
