The black Mercedes stopped on Vegal Crescent before the incident

Two teenagers have been arrested after a car reversed into a police officer in West Yorkshire.

The black Mercedes A180 was stopped by officers on Vegal Crescent in Ovenden, near Halifax, shortly before 12:00 GMT on 7 November, West Yorkshire Police said.

The officer was struck by the car as he approached it and suffered minor injuries. The vehicle left the scene before being abandoned.

A 19-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were arrested later and have been released on bail, police said.

The car had been travelling on Ovenden Way towards Lee Mount when it was first spotted by officers.

It was later found abandoned on Moorside Gardens at about 12:15 GMT.

Det Ch Insp Claire Smith said: “This was clearly a dangerous incident where an officer, doing their job, ended up injured and taken to hospital."

She asked anyone who had footage of the Mercedes before or after the incident to contact police.
