A burglar who ransacked a disabled man's home as he slept has been jailed for more than two years.

Kyle Goodman, 25, of no fixed abode, broke into the victim's flat in Bulwell, Nottingham, and stole a laptop computer, reading glasses and a vacuum cleaner at 05:30 BST on 28 July.

The victim woke when he heard an intruder was inside his flat but could not get up because of his disabilities, Nottingham Crown Court heard.

Goodman was also sentenced on Wednesday for a series of shop thefts after stealing food on three occasions during July 2024.

'Extremely frightening'

When the victim later checked his living room, the man discovered his belongings had been rifled through and several items were missing.

A short time later he discovered transactions had been made on a bank card which had been taken.

Goodman was identified as a suspect by detectives and arrested, Nottinghamshire Police said.

He pleaded guilty to burglary and two counts of fraud by false representation and was jailed for a total of two years and two months by Judge Rosalind Coe KC.

Goodman also pleaded guilty to five counts of theft in relation to the stolen food.

Det Sgt Nigel Malik, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “It must have been extremely frightening for the victim to discover an intruder was in his home, particularly given his disabilities.

"Goodman is also a persistent shoplifter and I hope the shops he has targeted are given some respite from his offending by the sentence handed down.”
