Building's future uncertain after buyer withdraws

The future of a former residential home in St Helier is uncertain after a potential buyer pulled out just days before the sale was set to be agreed, the parish has said.
Fire safety worries over cladding forced St Helier House at People's Park to close in 2017.
Authorities at the time said the risk to the 44 residents had been managed and they were moved out of the building in 2019, with it going up for sale to be redeveloped.
The Parish of St Helier said it believed it had found a buyer following a tender process, but the matter was removed from the Parish Assembly for vote after the prospective buyer withdrew.
The Constable of St Helier Simon Crowcroft said he hoped new proposals would be brought to the assembly before the end of 2024.
He said: "Following an independently managed tender process, the Parish’s Procureurs du Bien Public and I selected a preferred purchaser for St Helier House, but regrettably this bid has now been withdrawn and therefore can no longer be considered."
