'Noxious substance' sprayed at football club cars

Five people had to be decontaminated after a "noxious substance" was thrown at parked cars by motorcyclists intruding on a youth football training session.

First reported by the Northamptonshire Telegraph, external, it happened on Wednesday evening at the recreation ground off Burghley Drive in Corby.

Three cars were damaged and five people who attempted to clean them "were decontaminated at the scene as a precaution before being medically assessed by East Midlands Ambulance Service", police said.

No injuries were reported in the attack, which was described as "disgusting" by the football club.

Northamptonshire Police said it happened at about 18:20 BST on the Exeter estate.

A training session was under way at Hellenic Fisher FC when four motorcycles drove on to the playing field and performed wheelies, before riding off towards the footpath on Oakley Road.

A short time later, two people wearing dark clothing and face coverings rode through the playing field car park and squirted a noxious substance on to the bodywork of vehicles.

The Corby Neighbourhood Policing Team said it wanted to hear, external from anyone who had video footage of motorcycles being ridden dangerously in Corby on the day of the attack.

Ch Insp Paul Cash, head of local policing for Corby and Kettering, said: "We appreciate that incidents of this nature are hugely concerning to those involved and the local community, and I want to reassure everyone that we are taking this incident seriously."

Hellenic Fisher FC said: "As disgusting as this attack is, we have no reason to believe that it was aimed at the club.

"The police have confirmed at this time they believe this to be a random attack.

"We will now hopefully be working with the council to have extra safety measures put in place."
