Two men have been arrested after worshippers had belongings stolen during prayers at a mosque in Dewsbury.

Police said the suspects went into the Masjid Uthman mosque between 19:30 to 21:30 GMT on Tuesday and stole personal property, including trainers and a jacket.

Two men, aged 19 and 25, have been arrested on suspicion of burglary, West Yorkshire Police said.

Insp Liz Lockwood, from Dewsbury neighbourhood policing team, said it was working with faith providers and offering advice on improving security measures.

The officer added: "A theft from any place of worship can cause a great deal of upset in communities and we have been working with partners at the mosque to offer support as we continue our investigation."

"Our crime prevention officers are able to offer help and advice on target hardening and general security."
