A fresh appeal for information about the disappearance of a Birmingham man more than 40 years ago has been made by police.

Douglas Mortimer was reported missing by his family on 3 December 1981, when he was 44.

He was last seen in Ladywood and was meant to be meeting friends at Ladywood Social Club that evening but never turned up, said West Midlands Police.

The force said they were renewing the appeal in the hope of getting new information about his disappearance as he would be 87 years old now.

Mr Mortimer worked on the Waterboard and in Ladywood Social Club.

He was about 5ft 8ins (1.73m) tall, of medium-build with short grey hair and blue eyes at the time of his disappearance.

"The family of Douglas are asking for anyone who may have information in relation to his disappearance to come forward," a force spokesperson said.

"Sadly no trace of Douglas has ever been found but we are hoping our renewed appeal will help jog people's memories who lived in the area at the time."

Anyone with information was asked to contact the force's Missing Persons Investigation Unit on 0121 626 7003.
