Plans for a care home on the former Epsom police station site in Church Street have been approved

Plans for a care home on the site of a former police station have been approved by Epsom and Ewell Borough Council.

The development of an 85-bed care home on the Epsom site in Church Street will also include facilities for a shop, cinema and hairdresser.

The application was deferred at a meeting in November, while the council asked for more detail on the risks of flooding.

Officers had previously described the plans as being in a "highly sustainable location" because the site is near to public transport and other public car parks.

The application said the existing police station ambulance station would be demolished to make way for a new residential, nursing and dementia care home.

One local resident raised concerns about flooding in their basement and if the development risked making matters worse.

Consultants said it was unlikely the development would impact groundwater flow in such a way that it would affect neighbouring properties, according to planning meeting papers.
