A man has died in a crash between two cars in Shropshire.

The crash happened at about 19:20 GMT on Sunday at the junction of the A5 and A458 in Shrewsbury, near Bicton Heath, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

A passing ambulance stopped to help after it came across the incident and was joined by a second shortly afterwards, a spokesperson added.

A driver of one of the cars was given emergency treatment by paramedics but died at the scene.

A woman who was a passenger in the other car was treated for serious injuries.

A man driving that vehicle also needed help but his injuries were not as serious, the spokesperson said.

Both patients were taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further treatment.
