Attempted murder arrest as man in 70s attacked

The attack happened on Abbotsbury Road in Weymouth on Tuesday night, police say

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a street attack in Weymouth that left a man in his 70s in a serious condition.

Police were called to Abbotsbury Road, Weymouth on Tuesday shortly before 20:15 GMT where they found the victim with head and facial injuries.

The arrested man is aged 19 and from the town.

Dorset Police said the victim remained in hospital and his family had been informed.

The force said inquiries were ongoing and high-visibility patrols will be carried out in the area.
